Politically Correct Pink

Has anyone else noticed how we can no longer say "pink." Like we can't just say the color pink anymore. It has to be "dusty pink," or "dusty blossom," or "blushed something whatever." Whatever happened to just plain pink?

Checking out The Outfit of the Day's post about her latest wishes from the J.Crew Collection, I spied the Blush Tweed Pencil Skirt - & hello! - didn't realize it was Collection until now. I fell in love with this skirt from the time it first came out and didn't hesitate to buy it the first week. I'm happy I did. I loved it before I knew it was Collection and I love it still. I just can't wear it all the time because it's one of those pieces people recognize right away... as in, Hey, you're wearing that skirt again... Oh well, gorgeous skirts are made for multiple wears. Especially soft tweed ones. &

J.Crew Collection Blushed Tweed Pencil Skirt
J.Crew Maya Cardigan in Dusty Blossom
American Eagle Aerie white pocket v-neck tee
American Eagle Pink Pearl strand, tied in a knot
J.Crew Collection Metallic Lulu Peep Toes
J.Crew Metallic Guava (?) Thompson Tote
J.Crew cluster ring
J.Crew skinny leather belt in a dark wine color (can't remember the color name)
& ....

Oh, yes, ladies. The Bug Pin.

I was never an anti-fan of the bug pin. I know there were many, many, many mixed emotions about the bug pin. From absolute despisal to downright loathing. But for me, I thought it was a cute little guy. Definitely not worth the fanfare J.Crew made up for it (couture stitching, or whatever? I think not). But for a little pin, I've always thought it adorable.

Heading to a ball tonight. A ball! & getting all dressed up to hit the town. I'll take tons of pictures and post the beautiful dresses I see. I'll be wearing a black formal BCBG dress and black BCBG sandals and tons of pearls. I just watched that episode of Gossip Girls last night where Chuck opens his SpeakEasy and everyone wears all those gorgeous 1920's outfits and it's sort of inspired me to put together something similar. Will keep you posted soon!

  4. I really like your outfit today. Especially belted and with your heels and bags. I liked the bug pin but couldn't believe how expensive it was selling on ebay (I missed it when it came out).
It must be fun to dress up for a ball. Have fun!

  5. Wow ladies thank you for all the great feedback on today's outfit!

@Stephanie: It's the Marine Corps Birthday Ball. I'm not a Marine, and neither is my husband, but we both work for the MC and I went with my office. A great tradition of theirs and had a good time!

@TOOTD: Girl this skirt was a requirement when it came out. There was no ifs, ands or buts. It had to be mine.

@Kathy: I saw your comment at TOOTD about the taffeta skirt! I love that skirt too, esp with a simple tee. I've got to catch up on my GG. I watch it on iTunes b/c I can't get Hulu overseas! boo on Hulu!

@jcmama: Thanks!! I always like the way JCAs take IRL pics with the Thompson tote folded over and thought I'd try it. I have to say I liked the way it turned out! How much was the pin on eBay? I'm surprised! I love that pin, though. It's quirky. Very librarian chic!

  6. A BALL! I'm excited for you! I can't wait to see your photos! The skirt is gorgeous too, although I know what you mean about not being able to wear "recognizable" things too often. I try to space those pieces out at least a week apart, haha! I was never against the bug pin, for the record. I just thought it was hilarious how J.Crew tried to sell it as the most awesome thing ever. Oh, J.Crew, you crack me up sometimes!

  7. I blame VS for slapping PINK across every stupid pair of pjs/short shorts/cropped sweatpants. I, for one, want nothing to do with whatever associations pink has in that regard. :P

  8. I love your outfit. My skirt is on back order until next month - can hardly wait to get it though. You've styled it perfectly with the Maya cardi, belt and Thompson tote. :) I never paid a lot of attention to the bug pin when it came out, but it looks SO cute with your outfit!

Dressing up for a ball. That sounds fabulous. Hope you have a great time and please do take pictures of your outfit. :)

  9. I am up and awake after the ball and will post pics soon!

@Amy, totally right about how J.Crew tried to make the bug pin the most special thing in the whole world. That was weird.

@tastymoog: So, SO true about VS making pink a blasphemous word. & I'm not a particular fan of having that on my butt either!

@A Bigger Closet: Thank you & congrats on ordering yours! I hope you get it earlier than the date they say!
